As past President of the Sandbridge Beach Civic League for seven years, I had the pleasure and honor of dealing with Dr. Karen Kwasny on many projects. These projects would have negatively impacted Sandbridge and all surrounding communities. Karen has successfully worked with communities to form committees to get the job done on the first try. For instance, when there was an application to place a subdivision in the area, Karen assisted the community in negotiating alternatives to keep the venture from entering the already flooded wetlands. This would have also created overcrowding and traffic issues on a small road that has little hope of being expanded. Then there are the flooding issues in our area; Karen is always working on solutions. She really knows our flooding issues, having worked on them for many years, and knows how to work with others to get answers and action. She realizes the importance of Nimmo Parkway and will work with surrounding communities to get the best outcome. She has been active in speaking with communities as a whole regarding the unintended consequences of the Short Term Rental regulations. A few years ago when this issue first arose, Karen made it a point to gather multiple perspectives, as initially she only had one view presented to her. She reached out to me, friends, and community members in the surrounding area to better understand the effects an ordinance could have and the different ways it would impact rental home owners and community members. We need a council person that will make decisions for the whole and not a few. One that will listen, communicate, and bring communities together rather than dividing them over issues that affect all of them. Karen is listening to the entire community and makes decisions for the good of all. Please join me in voting for Karen Kwasny for Virginia Beach City Council on Tuesday, November 6th.
